How to Find the Right Rental Property for you

Tony Jimenez July 26, 2022 Home Comments are off

If you are looking for a property to rent, it can be hard to know how to go about it, where to start and what to look for, especially if you are new to all of this. Private renting (renting a home from a homeowner, rather than from your local authority) is something that it is good to have plenty of information about beforehand, as this way you can avoid ending up paying too much or ending up with a property that isn’t suitable for you.

To start with you need to work out what you can afford to pay in rent and what area you want to rent in. The internet is a great tool to use when searching for properties this way – you can get a good idea of the sort of rental charges of the properties in that area, which can help you to work out what you can afford. Rental prices, like the prices to buy a property, vary quite a bit all over the country, so if one area is more expensive, try somewhere nearby to see if it is any cheaper.

Another way to start searching for properties, once you have decided on an area, is to contact local letting agents like this letting agency Gloucester for example http://www.tgres.co.uk If you register an interest with them and make them aware of what sort of thing you are looking for they can notify you straight away if something comes up that you might be interested in.

Sometimes, landlords don’t use a letting agent and will rent to the tenant directly. Although this can be cheaper as they save on paying letting agency fees, the downside to this is that you will not have the letting agency to act as a go between if things like repairs need to be done, and you should make sure that all of the paperwork that you are signing when you take the property on is legal.

It is a good idea to have some questions ready to ask when you are looking at a rental property – things like what does the rent include (sometimes it will include bills, especially if you are renting a room in a shared house), how long you can rent the property for, and what you need to pay before you can move into the property.
