In an exciting development for car fanatics everywhere, Peugeot revealed its design for the next generation of its i-Cockpit. The new technology will offer simpler controls, driver profiles, and much more customisation. Drive to the future
The previous release was the second generation of the i-Cockpit infotainment system. The system has seen a total overhaul, incorporating an 8” touchscreen alongside a 12.3” display, and eight control buttons conveniently placed on the centre console. The i-Cockpit has also been upgraded in terms of hardware, making use of the fastest processor available for this type of technology.
The 12.3” TFT screen, located above the steering wheel, uses a similar menu structure to that of Audi’s Virtual Cockpit. Peugeot has made it its own, however, with unique graphics offering five custom displays. The display can be controlled from the steering wheel, allowing drivers to use the in-built satnav, or they can use the driver-assist screen, which highlights upcoming road features such as sharp turns. It can also be set to a more traditional screen showing data typically displayed by instruments.
Control at your fingertips
The Peugeot 3008 will also be one of the few cars compatible with Android Auto, MirrorLink and Apple Carplay. These apps are used to connect smartphones with the i-Cockpit, providing phone functionality without the danger of touching the phone. Not many cars support this feature at the moment but more and more will make an appearance.
The comparatively smaller 8” touchscreen is where users can customise up to three driver profiles and preferences, including features such as seat massage settings, lighting options and even cockpit fragrances. This screen also has a choice of displays built around navigation, featuring a 3D variant of the in-built satnav by TomTom that can provide instant traffic updates and allow the driver to select a destination simply by touching it on the map.
With all of these options, users could get overwhelmed. Fortunately, Peugeot has included a one-touch button that gives access to the most frequently used features such as seat heating, phone syncing and climate control.
